Kates On - Trash-O-Rama

Now I think it's about time we introduce our friend Kate Hughes - of Snog, Marry, Avoid fame. She's an artist and film maker most notorious for her hilarious and touching serial 'Kates On' in which she chooses a subject she is interested in - these range from drinking tequila, going to the circus, Bollox & her Auntie's Wedding - and films it while providing acerbic, David Hoyle style interviews with whoever she may come across on her adventures.

We were lucky enough to have her do one for Trash-O-Rama at Homoelectric and here are the results. Please go to her Youtube channel and check out her other creations - http://www.youtube.com/user/MrKatehughes

Bollox #1

Here at Trash-O-Rama we moonlight at Bollox Club in Manchester. That perfect mixture of good people, good music and good times that we don't think you get anywhere else. We have been in residency since January for what was supposed to be 6 months but we were asked to stay on until the haven that is Legends closes down by Commander in Chief Rod after a great response to our sets.

This is one of our favourite gigs as we always get an exciting reaction from the crowds whether that be the students, the queers, the nostalgic bears, the disco mums, the trendy clubbers or the freaks. That's what is so special about Bollox, everyone loves it from every type of background and every place. It's everyone's go-to on the 3rd Friday of every month and you always get the same faces alongside the new ones. People can rely on Bollox to give them that monthly reassuring pat on the head that says 'Yr alright kiddo' or something along those lines.

Anyway without gabbing on we played Friday which was the 7th set in our residency and it was brilliant. A total sweat box, great feedback from the audience and most importantly lots and lots of dancing. We're gonna start posting the most well received songs of our sets so you can see what pleased the crowd the most and perhaps discover more music on the back of these songs that you can enjoy. Here it is in no particular order -

Chic - Everybody Dance
Michael Jackson - P.Y.T
Rufus & Chaka Khan - Ain't Nobody
DJ Reezy - Hollaback Girl
Major Lazer - Pon De Floor
The b15 Project - Girls Like Us
Blue Boy - Remember Me
Psychemagik - Everywhere

Here's the wall of shame -

Songs we dig #1

This 1997 classic by Blue Boy has recently surfaced in our search for great tunes to play out. Long forgotten but always playing in the backs of our minds I'm always reminded without realising it when listening to Liberation Conversation by Marlena Shaw even though the sample is from Woman Of The Ghetto. The catchy scat 'chorus' taken from this song is the only other vocal part of the song other than "Remember me? I'm the one who had your babies." This refrain is backed throughout by a typically 90s bass beat, nostalgic. The words are haunting and hopeful. When I wanna go back to the heyday of my youth I stick this on, my headphones, break out a bottle of hooch and imagine I'm in my tube top raving away at Liverpool's Paradox Nightclub. Enjoy <3

TROUBLE AT T'MILL

So coming up in August we have our 2nd all night party called Trouble At T'Mill. The first one was in April and we were surprised to find it was a massive success. Loads of great peeps relaxing and bopping together until the early hours of the morning. We got together a bunch of local DJs to come and spin some tunes for us and was really fun. Cos of this we've decided to do it all again in August. This time among many others we have Will Tramp!, Wet Play, Good Afternoon and Polly Esther's new DJ collective Power Frau. It'll be split into 2 rooms: Heat Packin' District & Hustle Beach. Over 6 hours for £6, 15 DJs over 8 sets all in the underground setting of Islington Mill in Salford. Come join us, event details are below x

We got a thing goin' on...

And just like Mrs Jones, Trash-O-Rama may be getting on in years but she can still give as good as she gets and draw attention from all young boys (& girls too.)

We are at a point in time where we have lots of cool stuff coming up and need an outlet to tell all you lot about what's going on. So join us on our debauched journey, we'll be posting great tunes, mixes, events, photos, videos, posters & other promoters & bands we dig.

Keep it sleazy,

Polly & Johnny.
